This project located in Gainesville, Florida,
included the design and construction of a mast
arm signal to replace
the existing span wire installation. Several innovative approaches
were utilized to reduce overall project costs. The existing cabinet
was reused as it was recently installed under a FDOT project. In
order to provide value to the design, an extended manufacturer's
warranty was provided by the design build team in order to provide
an essentially new cabinet, but at a substantial cost savings. In
addition, a special mast arm upright was designed to support the
required luminaire on the north side of NW 23rd Avenue in order to
avoid a conflict with a FDOT standard design pole. This approach
allowed the overhead lines to be relocated on the existing poles and
eliminate the need to replace the pole line while still allowing
adequate illumination of the roadway.
