This project included design and construction
(Design Build) of a new mast arm emergency
preemption signal. Two structures, one single and one double
mast arm, were utilized for the Belleview Fire Station driveway and
Pine Forest Road approaches to reduce construction costs, avoid
utility conflicts and utility relocation costs. Special mast arm
drilled shafts were designed to avoid underground gas and fiber
optic facilities. Preemption timings were developed and a
manual push button was provided in the fire station to activate the
preemption sequence. The project also included completion of a
signal utility permit for FDOT review and compliance since the
installation was on a state facility. Coordination with the
County Fire Chief was needed in order to provide backup power for
the signal assembly via on-site generators. The design and
construction was completed in four months. The project also
included utility coordination, geotechnical investigation,
topographical survey, structural design of mast arms and subsurface
utility investigation with ground penetrating radar.
CES was the lead design Consultant on this
project and Ingram Signalization, Inc. was the Construction
Contractor.
